Seven Days of Menstruation is a five-minute and twenty second silent video installation of sequences documenting the precarious behavior of menses in a toilet bowl. Through a macro lens and highly saturated tones of red, the ephemeral nature of menses is articulated in various states of dispersion, dissipation, and concentration. While visual appealing, this aesthetic representation has no intentions to beautify the subject. Rather, the gritty and overwhelming richness of the menses pulls into question the fixed conventions of contamination associated with the menstruating female body. The grainy texture and inconsistent lighting defamiliarizes the substance as an entity of its own to such an anthropomorphic extent as to suggest a space of symbolic sovereignty, however fleeting.
